Helping the Community Care Center Care for People
The Community Care Center believes everyone in our community deserves compassionate, high quality medical and dental care. However, many of our neighbors still do not have health insurance and live near the poverty level.
Who the Community Care Center Helps
Community Care Center patients, though hard working, risk financial and health catastrophe when illness strikes. 76% of the patients served have family incomes that fall below the Federal Poverty Level and do not qualify for ACA insurance subsidies. Others simply cannot afford to pay for these services despite subsidized premiums. The Center maintains over 19,000 patient visits per year. A majority of the patients are employed and 20% are children.
How the Center Came to Be
In early 2000, a group of retired physicians were able to establish a free clinic for the uninsured. Taking a leadership role in garnering community support, physicians inspired others to offer their time, talents, in kind gifts and financial support. Novant Health responded in providing a large, modern, medical building for $1 a year. In 16 years, Community Care Center has grown into the largest clinic of its kind in North Carolina, has cared for more than 22,000 patients, and has delivered services and medicines valued at over $100 Million.
What the Center Offers
The Center provides the most comprehensive care of any free clinic in the state with access to x-rays, ultrasound and EKG. It also provides in-house specialty clinics, including:

- Gynecology
- Mammography
- Neurology
- Ophthalmology
- Otolaryngology
- Pediatrics
- Podiatry
- Psychiatry
- Urology
- Dental
Providing Continuity of Care for the Community
The medical communities for both hospitals have volunteered tirelessly to this endeavor along with many agencies, foundations, businesses and individuals. InsureSTAT will continue in that tradition with a percentage of our profits going to the Community Care Center to allow this vital program to continue to grow and thrive in our community for years to come.
